So I am planning on installing a SSD into my new macbook pro. I have watched some videos and I think that I can handle the actual install of the SSD, the problem I am having is how to install the operating system on it.

The new macbook pros don't come with a install CD so I am not sure how to go about installing the OS. I have heard of booting from a USB - will that work for this? Also can anyone post a link for some easy to follow instructions on making a USB bootable.

I want to install a clean copy of the OS so don't need to copy anything from my existing hard drive.

Any other ideas/tips would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply. Yes I am using mountain lion.

Sorry, this may sound like a stupid question but how to I set up the recovery partition on the SSD before the SSD is inside the mac?

The new MBPs come with internet recovery in case the hard drive is replaced. Just boot and hold option and a WiFi droplist will be present. Connect to your WiFi network and it will download ML and install it.

Well that seems easy enough. Thanks a lot for that info
