So either I've been out of the loop badly or this is just something I didn't realize.
Recently my iPhone 6S battery has been horrific as I'm sure many others have experienced since the iOS update. My phone now constantly dies during the night (at least when I forget to plug it in).
I can have the phone on 60% battery and will still wake up with it dead.

Anyway... on MORE than one occasion now I've had people tell me they texted me in the middle of the night, yet I never received the text. I simply started thinking that my phone was just so messed up that it wasn't receiving these texts, even if the phone had died. I've had a dead overnight phone in the past a few times over the years and could have sworn I'd wake up to all the texts just popping up once the phone was charge/connected to WiFi.

But apparently after doing some research I've learned that iMessage simply doesn't go through to a dead phone. Wow. Is this 100% accurate? Seems hard to believe. So if someone sends you a crucial/important text and your phone just so happens to be dead, you'll NEVER get it???

Thank you in advance for any information.

I can keep my phone off and my iMessages will go to my Mac instead. However, even if my Mac is off and I turn my phone or Mac back on, the iMessages will appear. That might be something controlled by your carrier if your phone is off or has died and the iMessages are not stored. My carrier is T-Mobile so am not sure if all carriers are the same. I thought that iMessages were also stored in the iCloud? Maybe someone who knows more about it can comment?

iMessages are not in iCloud (at least that hasn't been a released feature so far). As far as them being stored, typically it doesn't have to do anything with the carrier and more with Apple and them storing the message until it is delivered (or some period of time passes).

Thanks. It would be convenient if iMessages were stored in the cloud but of course that would mean more cloud storage.
Something along those lines has been planned for iOS 11, but hasn't been released so far.

Interesting. I dont know all the details of how it all works. I know one of my good friends has a IP5 and when we are at work, he turns his off. If I sent him an iMessage, it will try to send for a few minutes and then it goes green and is sent as a text. I have T-Mobile and he has Walmarts wireless. I do Send as SMS so that when iMessage is not available it will send as a text
