Being discussed many times here and so people said I was wrong and iPad 2 will have a retina display. And none...

So, iPad 3 will be coming out next year. You all still believe apple will double the resolution on iPad 3?

I don't think it will happen until iPad 4. But, can you all haters please comment that iPad 3 will or will not have retina display?

2 just came out and we are already worried about 3?? gee willickers.

I add to iPad 4 because currently its too cost prohibitive to build(?)/use/make retina displays the size of an iPad screen due to low creation reaction process yields.

I heard iPad 4 will have 3D screen, and iPad 5 can be mind controlled.

Or, we would just have to wait for Apple to announce something, and in meantime enjoy the one we have?

steve jobs has said in an interview that he's planning on waiting until he releases the touch screen imac's, power book G5's, and the new iphone 5 with a slide out keyboard and built in DSLR.

I don't understand why there are so many snarky responses on a forum called macrumors. I think this thread is completely justifiable.

That said, I'm afraid that the retina display won't be in the next version. I waited until just now to buy an iPad (version 1 on discount) b/c I grew tired of waiting for the retina display. I personally feel the current display is not sufficient but I'm a huge believer in the form factor. Didn't want to deprive myself of the form factor for however long it takes for the retina display to arrive. My speculation...

iPad 3: (iPhone 4 quality cameras, faster, wireless syncing or some such)
iPad 4: (retina display. is anything else really needed? no.)

This thread is stupid because the OP is talking as if he was the only one to suggest the iPad 2 wouldn't have a retina display, even though in reality that was pretty much the consensus among rumors and reasonable people.

Wouldn't count on it for iPad 3 either. Retina on an iPad would be crazy resolution, and they're not going to make the enclosure thicker again.

There is no way the iPad 3 will have a 325ppi screen. That would be an insanely high res which would need a hefty GPU to power it. I can see see them maybe going with something like 1920x1080 but even then that is a lot for a 10in screen and would be quite expensive to make considering the only things out right now with that res are OLED screens.

The thing I do see coming is making the iPad 3 more powerful for gaming. iOS has proven to be a great mobile gaming platform so Apple might try to go against the NGP which means SGX543MP4 and quad Cortex A9 will be coming.

What fun would that be? Not much point in a rumors site if you are going to get all wrapped up in getting the actual facts

Why would a higher resolution screen increase the thickness of the iPad. It's not like they have to physically stuff in twice as many pixels. I do agree that a retina quality iPad is probably a few years off.

Email Stevo and ask him. Please let us know what he says. ;)

I'm hanging in to 1st gen and am hoping for BIG improvements for Tres iPad (including better screen).
