So...is the camera defective or software bad?

Tonight my daughter and grandson came over to the house for dinner. After dinner he was sitting on my lap in my office playing with the computer when my daughter came in and took a picture of us with her 3GS phone. I then handed her my Iphone4 and she took several shots of us again. The difference in the pictures was astounding.

The 3GS had very good color balance while the 4's pictures had the yellowish tint that has been discussed here before. So my question is; is it hardware and should I replace the phone or is it a software issue that may get resolved. My phone works great otherwise and I have been pleased with the performance of the phone after suffering for two years with a Blackberry Storm.

I wish I knew. Everyone i photograph looks like a Simpsons character.

Apple genius told me it was a software thing, but they typically know very little at this stage in the game.
