If so what kind of deals will they offer on the old versions? Similar to what is happening to the Macbooks right now?

"It is decidedly so."

Actually they're launching March 1st, but Apple is holding a conference on the second to explain all the features to iPad 2 owners.

I think next week at the latest. Anyone else notice a complete absence of iPad tv commercials in the US lately?

That's pretty interesting - the number of iPad commercials in the UK is as high as it's ever been: Maybe they're going to launch first in the US again like they did with the first one?

According to electronica, they heard it will launch 4th or 5th.

9to5mac.com is reporting that all non-Apple retailers shipments have been halted and production has been stopped. What's on shelves is all there is.

Of course, just like Apple, they're still "Ships within 24 hours" so it's anyone's guess at this point.

Mine would be immediate WiFi availability and 3-5 business days until 3G availability.:)

Making a statement like this is useless if you don't supply an example.

Seriously? EVERY iPhone has been announced with a delayed release date. The 3G, which was the second gen like the iPad 2, was announced on June 9th and didn't ship until July 11th.

On several occasions other products have been announced with release dates 30 or more, a couple times with the MBP 17" model. Once the updated Mac Pro (or maybe it was PM G5) was shipped almost 3 months after the release announcement.

I'm not saying that WILL happen, but just don't think that it couldn't happen because it has before.

At their price points, I'm not sure that same logic applies to the mac pro and macbook pros...

The iphone releases got closer every announcement IIRC.

I think another important point is how well the ipad is selling currently, and that presents a greater potential for loss of sales with a 30 day plus lead time.

My initial statement may have been much to generalized and blanketed, so I'll have to back off a bit from that.

But surely you can see the logical reasons why it makes sense for apple to not announce iPad 2 so far ahead.

At the same time, this announcement muzzles the buzz about the XOOM, so there is something there as well in the opposite view.
