Its now 11pm and at 6pm I started converting 22 Episodes of Prison Break (350mb AVI to ipod m4v)...it is only halfway through and my system is NOT loving it :)

It is actually working surprisingly well, but feels like im playing halo in rosetta :)

Only another 5 hours to go until I get to use my system for anything other than slow web use :)

You're brave.

I wouldn't attempt that unless I was going to sleep....for 24 hours.

I just thought it would do it quick :p

I didn't relise it was a big thing, its 11.20 so i might aswell just go to bed.

The reason i am doing it is that my GF's boss is going on holiday tomorrow and it would have taken his PC a week, maybe more - and he wants it for the plane on his ipod

That's nice of you. Basically giving up the use of your computer just to convert those files for him.

Well goodluck with that being finished by the time you wake up.

Is your machine a dual processor? All other processes should run like butter, :p especially if you go in Terminal, type top to find the process id number of the Quicktime conversion and then type renice +20 [id number] to reduce it's priority. Then your web surfing should resume to normal speed. :)

Well, I woke up thismorning and it was all done, but the tip above is definately being bookmarked for future use!

I've got a dual 2.3 PM with 3.5gb RAM and 10k raptor (maybe i should have saved the file on my other internal so that the disk was'nt reading and writing?
