So my CD/DVD drive is really loud on startup

Seriously. Like people have commented on it. Everytime i turn it on it makes the regular checking if a disc is in there noise but it is like 5 times louder than when i bought it. I have had it for just over a year, it is used daily and usually only turned off for like 4 hours max. Is this noise just a sign of age or is there something wrong?

My October unibody makes a big noise as well, compare to the newest mbp/mb.

yeah guy in my class has a unibody and it is easily 2-3 times louder than that
like people across the room turn around all "wtf was that?"

The mechanism can be used many many times; I wouldn't worry about it.
