on it. He only has booted into the mac operating system when he made the partition using Boot Camp. I was just wondering if he needs to boot into the mac operating system and download any firmware updates for his hardware. I think I remember him telling me he has had some hardware issues but he did not explain to me if it was a Ubuntu problem or a firmware issue. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I don't know what you're asking?
 
Yes, I believe you would need to use Mac OS X in order to get firmware updates... I don't think the Ubuntu folks are in the business of updating Apple's SMC firmware for their Macs.
