4th gen, about 2 years old. It is on airplane mode, nothing running, but letting it sit for an hour or two with the screen off on standby I can see a huge difference in the amount of battery. Is this normal or should I make an appointment?

If it's going dead that fast and you have any warranty, then I'd take it in. Even if you are out of warranty, they will replace the battery with a genuine one for you at a reasonable cost.
