IIRC the 300 was the limit the human eye can see pixels hold at a iPhone-holding-distance.

With the current resolution 960x640 we can only reach 3.8" to achieve 303 PPI, it also fits the exact with of the current iPhone...

Youd hold a 4" screen device 14-16" from your face, so the retina calc is about 260.

So I think the 300 number doesnt matter.

Trust me, apple wouldn't make anything that hideous ;) it looks like how samsung would knock off the current iphone.

Its deffinately going to be a little bit bigger. But i think .3 of an inch makes very little difference to how the eye processes what it sees ... there still won't be any pixel gaps!!

I know, I know, it gives me headache of only looking at it but it's just for screen size comparison
 
id be happy with that, however how obvious would it be to the eye if they just went to 4 inches instead? i mean would it really be that noticeable?
