People pre-ordered the 5C last week and they'll be receiving them tomorrow via home delivery.

As they were available to pre order with delivery today (launch day) then I guess a lot of people will of just done that. Rather than going to the store.

Plus its not the top of the range iPhone, so a different market. Most people who buy the 5c won't be the type of people who will be in a hurry to pick one up. They are not going to be the phone geeks!
