Want to sell my 3G iphone on ebay and buy a full retail priced 3GS.

I'm just a little confused on prepping my 3G phone for sale. Like when I pre-order through Apple or at&t, will they automatically just unlink my old phone to their system, or something?

Can anyone chime in on this?
