IPhone X and lack of home button, resulting in slide up substitute to unlock after it recognizes your face with Face ID.

It was right in front of our noses all along in the betas!

I really wish hey didn’t change it for all devices.

The way I interact with my IPhone 7 will not be the same as the iPhone X (if and when I get it).

I miss the old "unlock into an app" animation but I'm fine with the home screen unlock one. Don't really like the open and close though, makes way more sense on the X.

This has been well detailed via all the leaks over the past several leaks. The lock screen and notification shade were kind of merging into a cover sheet.

Also, really nice tidbit from today was seeing how sliding back and forth on the home indicator (line at the bottom of the screen that replaces the home button) acts as a multitasking gesture.

Isn't it the same in iOS 10 as well?

No iOS 10 just jumps into home screen without the slide up transition

It was never detailed in leaks the slide up gesture, to substitute for a press of the home button

The best feature yet

I literally screamed from excitement when I saw it demoed

I described the process many times when explaining Face ID. Lift phone, screen wakes and you're authenticated. Slide up for the home screen. Maybe I hadn't mentioned it, but in reports of people seeing it in person it was well described. Also really became clear that was the direction they were going with iOS 11 betas. And the multitasking gesture really makes sense now given how they removed the 3d Touch side gesture for multitasking.

Everything’s clear in hindsight ;)

Lol probably my favourite thing from the whole event. Instantly reminded me of rumours from the supposed iPhone 5 in 2011 (when we got the 4S) and how there was going to be an elongated home button with gestures for multitasking. Hey, never know, could have been super early prototypes for where these gestures came from.

This was the one:

I’ve been enjoying this feature for at least half a decade now, thanks to a developer called Chpwn and a tweak called Zephyr, its fantastic.

I’m sure the masses will love it as much as I have

Another super useful feature that I really hoped iPhone X would have is a virtual Back button at the bottom. Kinda disappointed.

I was hoping to see a lot of the navigation icons/buttons move down to the bottom so they're always in quick reach. I thought that would have been an obvious move for Apple. Maybe not bad this year as the X isn't a huge phone, but in the future with a Plus sized iPhone X it's really going to get challenging.

Somewhat addresses the “3D Touch screen edge for multi tasking” feature removal in iOS 11

Yep, especially since iPhone X doesn't support Reachability.

What do you mean "sliding back and forth?" I only saw sliding up, pausing awkwardly halfway up, and then letting go - to access multitasking.

Trying to find a clip in one of the reviews, but basically sliding back and forth along the home indicator will jump between apps.

Would love to see that.

Found it in the keynote. The video on apple's site it occurs at 1:37:40, right after Craig shows multitasking by pushing the app up, he also does it by sliding across on the home indicator.

Took a quick screenshot as the weather app was sliding off:
