here is the footnote from Apple:

Siri is available on iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad with Retina display, iPad mini, and iPod touch (5th generation) and requires Internet access. Siri may not be available in all languages or in all areas, and features may vary by area. Cellular data charges may apply. New female and male voices will be available initially in U.S. English, French, and German.

Notice it only said iPad with Retina Display. However if you look at this:

Panorama format is available on iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and iPod touch (5th generation). Square and video formats and swipe to capture are available on iPhone 4 or later, iPad (3rd generation or later), iPad mini, and iPod touch (5th generation).

Notice here it said: iPad (3rd generation or later)

So does this mean, new Siri won't work with 3rd generation of iPad??

don't worry the iPad 3 will still have it. the reason why they say with retina display is because they are much alike (besides the processor and the lightning port)

Yes, it will work. Just some mismatched wording by the looks of it.

The list of devices that are compatible it says iPad 2, iPad with retina display and iPad mini. It then also says about some features of iOS 7 that require 3rd generation iPad or later.

They have just called the 3rd generation iPad an iPad with retina display.

Siri should work with the 3rd gen iPad. There is just a little inconsistency in the wording. Notice that Air Drop won't be support on the 3rd gen iPad and they say... "AirDrop is available on iPhone 5, iPad (4th generation), iPad mini, and iPod touch (5th generation) and requires an iCloud account."

The 3rd generation iPad was the iPad with the Retina Display.

Also, the 3rd generation supports Siri now. Why would they suddenly drop it?

then i might have to jailbreak for the first time just to enable this feature.

i'm sick of clogging my email with emails to "myself" so I can get things from my comp and iphone to my ipad.

joejoejoe,
The simple solution to your problem is to set up a dropbox account and use it to transfer files around desktop, iphone and iPad. That's what i do and it works well.
