Is there a way to watch anything 4K on it from Apple TV? I assume not since ATV isn't 4K.

(We didn't buy this particular one because it was 4K but moreso because it was an awesome deal for a secondary TV we were shopping for that just happened to also be 4K and it also has a gorgeous picture IMO even just watching Hulu via ATV!)

Not a whole lot, though it increases every month. But if you have a 4K set that does upscaling well, it isn't as big a deal as many would lead you to believe. Sharp, Sony and most Samsungs are very good at upscaling.

The big difference comes if your set supports HDR, some do, many don't.

Doesn't sound compelling.

Additionally, "HDR" is a convoluted and non-standard/non-regulated claim many are making these days for marketing.

- Netflix
- Amazon
- Youtube
- Some IPTV
- 4K Blu-Ray

And

Vudu
Fandango Now
UltraFlix

And a few little Channels .....all available on the Roku 4

Honestly though our 4K TV (Samsung SUHD) is worth it just for the up scaling. I was having a hard time deciding whether to buy the 4K version or the 3D versions coming out as I wanted both. The up scaling on this TV is good enough that I can do the 3D version, and let it up scale it. Just ordered an LG 4K TV, I will see how well it up scales.

Really though, how many sources of 4K content are there these days?

All Netflix originals are 4K, and those increase at a crazy rate. Amazon Prime has 4K content too, and there's a lot on YouTube.

The 4K boat is setting sail and Apple, as sadly is often the case, haven't even started packing their cases yet.

I love the picture on our TV! It's just so crisp and clear... and that's watching it via ATV! So I know not 4K... but I just love it! Oh.... so I don't really know what HDR is... but it does that, too... at least according to the box!

You can also get 4K via satellite.
Oh lordy... I just cut the cord a few months ago.... NO WAY am I going back to satellite! Love my almost non-existant tv viewing bill since firing Direct!

I'll have to find something on Amazon to watch just to check it out.... Since the TV has the Amazon app on it... I'll be able to see how it looks and if "I" see any noticeable difference!

Watch Marco Polo on Netflix via your TV's Netflix app, but make sure you're on Netflix's 4K plan first. Marco Polo is Netflix's first 4K HDR show.

How do you think Apple will lure people to buy ATV5? By introducing 4K years after the standard has been released, and citing as the most revolutionary experience brought to a television in one of their events.

I would call it... introducing 4K and powerful enough hardware to play 4K movies when there are a lot of 4K movies, probably with the introduction of 4K movies in the iTunes Store.

FYI, if you are thinking that you're going to stream 4K to your TV and you have data caps with your internet provider you might be shocked to see what your data usage will be.

There's no 3D UHD Blu Ray.

"This is the seventh copy of the Star Wars saga you're looking for"
Lol, I don't even want to think about how many times I've bought them over the years. I know I have at least two VHS copies. Heck they even have me buying The Force Awakens for the second time in less then a year, and I thought lotr was bad.

Dreading the day iTunes starts offering 4K movies - I AM NOT BUYING STARS WARS FOR THE FIFTH TIME!! (I am, obviously)

My internet already slows down in the evening as folks start streaming. I dread when they start streaming in 4K. Folks streaming top chef or real housewives of wherever in 4K so we all have choppy streams is going to kill me. I'd rather a rock solid HD stream over any stutter.
