I have been looking for the latest version, but I have been having the most difficult time finding a version at all. Anyone have any leads or ideas?

Sorry to ask, but what is "I Love Lamp"?

It was a lava lamp widget from iSlayer, the folks behind the iStat widgets. Here is the MacUpdate page for it, but the app is gone.

random quotes from Anchor Man?
It is/was a lava lamp widget for dashboard. Here are some screenshots:

I emailed the developers and just got their response. They pulled I Love Lamp after Apple received a letter from the lava lamp company asking for its removal.

It really is a shame. :(

Very Sad indeed!

EricNau - Those pictures sure show a greater selection, wow.

The 1.6 version that I have does not work in 10.4.7. I just updated my OS from 10.4.0 and it works somewhat, but the lava is no longer contained in the lamp.

I sure would like to know where this updated 1.8 can be found.

It really is a shame...

dsharits, I was able to find the 1.8 version but it has some graphical errors. The tube which holds the lava is in a rectangular shape, anyone have or fixed this problem? :)

Actually I heard (via another forum's members) iSlayer in fact wasn't the originator of that widget, but had in fact ripped it off from the real developer and claimed it as their own. Apparently they have done this before with other widget developers. There are even comments in Versiontracker and MacUpdate at one stage (maybe from the real developer?). That's why the lamp widget got pulled.

It's such a shame for people to steal other people's ideas and hard work. Personally I'd hire someone if they produced something I liked rather than rip them off. That way my company would reap the benefit and not be labeled a thief later in the future.

That is absolutely not true. I Love Lamp was created for me (and eventually many others) after I requested it at dashboardwidgets.com. If you wish to see the original thread it can be found here.

It really is a shame that such terrible gossip is spread that can easily ruin the credibility of such great developers.

Hey don't shoot the messenger.

I was told this from the forum owner that iSlayer moderates and I read the comments in VersionTracker. Just seems a little suspect to me that these things were said then suddenly the widget is no more.

If you go by the idea that the makers of lava lamps said it was too much like their own product and so the widget was taken off line, then how many other companies out there would be doing the same thing about other widgets that are "too similar to their own real product"? Look out all those clock makers...

Hahaha. Bern strikes again!

Thanks buddy. For those who aren't familiar with Bern's work, he's the same guy who posted all those nice "rumours" about us on VersionTracker and anywhere else he could find a place to vent. I still have no idea why he's decided to attack us. Doesn't really make sense. I've never met him and haven't even spoken to him online (except via the VersionTracker comments). I also don't have any ill feelings towards him, except for a bit of a "WTF? why do that?".

Anyway... EricNau is right. It was his idea. Several developers chatted about the concept in the thread and iSlayer and I ended up building "I Love Lamp" with suggestions from everyone else.

We have pulled the widget from our site for the reasons stated. It can still be found via some googling ;)

Here's a copy of the final version released (1.8).

Cheers,
Marc.

PS: Just to reiterate... we've never nicked any code, ideas or graphics in our widgets, except where explicitly stated (like the help docs in the new iStat application... we've used Andy's Help Toolkit and he gets a full credit on the about window and a mention at every opportunity). Thanks Andy, you're a star ;)

Hi everyone! :)
Well I have this trouble too (I mean the rectangle thing) at home.
Strangely, not at work (my computer at work is a powermac G5)

So, how to solve that?

BTW, I mailed to Lava corp, and sait that it was a shame, etc etc...

We'll see what thet say, if they say anything...

I Love Lamp version 2 is finished and ready for download!
