I am looking for your help to understand what is 'normal' ghosting, and if what I have is NOT normal, how to convince Apple.
I have recently noticed ghosting on blue and grey screens. It was bugging me. I googled and found lots of posts. I took it to Genius and they did their test and said it was normal. It was a total of 4 min before he would let me look. I didn't see checkerboard. I also never heard ding, but didn't know I was supposed to listen for it. I'm pretty sure I turned audio off, but maybe their tool turns it on? So I went home.
But in my normal use, It's very obvious - like a transparent overlay. For instance, after doing my email (Outlook) for a while, I go to a website that uses a grey/black background and can see the email frame outlines.
I do NOT notice it on it on a black background, but I do noticed it on off black or grey ones - for instance, the Dashboard screen.
I do the Mitch Malone test with Grey and again with Grey Bumps and see it clearly. In fact, when I do that test in black, then click to Start Test again in grey, the whole background goes grey and I see the checkerboard vividly. I just did it again and I see this form in the background!
So what is normal? After 3 or so minutes, I don't see it anymore.
Note that from my ipad, I never see any ghosting.
I found one post where the person told the genius - well agree on black, but on grey it shows up and they conceded and gave him the new display.
I can try that and even demo it on the Dashboard (or will I have to restart to get to Dashboard?).
I would like to understand what is normal so I understand and am prepared. After switching displays, how long should it take for the previous image to fade away and still be normal???
I'll add that I do have a June '12 Macbook retina with the LG and the 1 hardware.
