I know, I know, check ebay. But since I can't look at historical records or have the experience to guess the trend.

I was thinking of giving my 3G to my daughter to use like a Touch -no phone features. But if it's worth selling I could buy a Touch or DSi.....

Thanks

Um ok, either way you'll need to look on eBay and see what they are going for to make a sound decision.

For an 8GB 3G I have seen them on eBay this week go for around $200 + or - $50 depending upon condition, carrier unlocked, etc.

There will probably be a flood of them showing up on eBay in the next month or so, as the new model hits the streets.

I am sure you could find someone to purchase it for a good price, but it will be very hard. The iPhone 3G is discontinued, and the iPhone 3GS is not that expensive at the moment. Most people will be selling the iPhone 3GS unlocked, but you may have a shot.

I think that giving it to your daughter is not a bad idea. I thought about doing that with my younger sister. She is always asking to play on the iPhones and iPod Touch in the house. I would not purchase a new iPod Touch for her though!!

look on ebay, and watch auctions that are 'ending soonest'. this will give you a general idea for what they go for.

I just sold my wife's 8gb 3G yesterday for $200. The buyer used the buy it now option.

FYI

(Now to sell my 16 GB 3GS next week so i can get a 4 on launch!)

When I bought the 3GS I sold my 3G for just over $300-, but it's probably worth less now. I'll be buying the iPhone 4 and selling my 3GS (16gig) on Ebay. It's in great shape and I'm hoping to get around $300- for the phone.

I'm waiting til i have the new phone in my hands before i sell. I checked a couple weeks ago at what it was going for and it was about 200 or more. I actually saw a couple of broken phones that sold for 200!!!! sold, broken, 200!!!!! i hope to get at least 150.

Sold my wife's white 16GB iPhone 3G with box and accessories, all in great condition, for $300.

On a Saturday morning, it took a total of 90 minutes from the time I posted it on CraigsList. Started at 9:30AM. I posted 3 pictures, placed my cell number, and was immediately bombarded until 12PM when I got around to taking down the post.

What would need to be done to wipe a phone to be sell-worthy and not give away any personal data? It's a 16GB 3G. Thanks!

would it be advisable to start selling it on ebay and have it end on say the 25th? I have a black iphone 3GS 16GB, has a few scratches from normal use, comes with a case and an armband with case and all original stuff.

EDIT: Just checked for 16gig 3GS's and they are still pulling between 275-450. amazing how well these phones hold value.

You have to remember... the 8Gb 3G phone is priced out at $399-499 without contract ... so getting one on Ebay used for around $200 is quite the steal ... Even if you factor in the other iPhones coming down in price in preparation of the iPhone 4.

I plan on selling my used 3G 8Gb for no less than $200, it will help soften the $299 price point of the iPhone 4

I thnk I am going to sell my phone to Best Buy Trade In...I should also part with the 1st generation, as well.

I am sure I would get a bit less than I would get from a private sale or ebay (these are both in great shape), but at least it is hassle free.

My 8GB 3G is in mint condition, and honeslty if I get $150 for it, jailbroken, w/ 2 cases, I'd be fine with that. It'd be nice to use any money toward the new phone, or not even that, just to sell the darn 3G i won't use anyway!

I'm going to sell my 2 year old 16 GB 3G on ebay and am hoping to get at least $200, which is around what they've been selling for I think.

I'm debating whether to unlock it or not, because I heard you can get a little more if its unlocked.

do u think they will drop around the 25th when the new ones come out? im just deciding when to sell it.

This is a really dumb question but if I have a 3GS for sale and I use AT&T, is it considered unlocked? Can I sell it without the SIM card so I can keep my data when I get iPhone 4?

Put it up on craiglist and see what offers you get.
Simple, right?

no, you have to jailbreak it and then unlock it
