I have read conflicting news on this.

Is it possible to switch out the hard drive on the 2011 imacs? I want to buy one and put in an ssd.

It is possible, Though it's quite difficult. Hence I paid an IT man to do it for me. Money well spent in my eyes, taking into account the cost of an iMac. Take a look at the guides on Ifixit.

It's not that difficult, but I am curious of the conflicting reports regarding temperature sensors and the fans being on constantly with an aftermarket hard drive.

Anyone have anymore info on what nikfinn said?

Also, does anyone have any knowledge regarding swapability for older imacs? 2010 or 2009?
