Windows XP and Vista while idle for some reason make the whole Macbook too warm to be comfortable on both the palm rest and the underneath of the system. It makes the whole MacBook pretty damn uncomfortable to use.

It doesn't make any sense to me, the processor is idle, not doing a thing. In XP only 275mb of ram is in use. So what is causing all the heat? Is it the graphics card?

I understand that the fan speed can be increaced with SMC fan control, but why do they need to run faster for XP? XP isn't a demanding operating system, probably less so than Leopard, yet that runs perfectly cool.
