To be honest I think it's a nice change and I prefer not having any avatars. It kind of puts everybody down on the same level and lots of the time I won't know whos posting. It's kind of like everybody is anonymous right now.

But with that being said, I started this thread just because I was curious when they'd be back. I figured they were taken down to save bandwidth during and after the keynote.
 
I'm guessing in a day or so... once stuff slows back down.

and I don't know who's posting anymore, either. I'm a visual person. :(
 
I like looking at my avatar. So much so I have a copy open right now. :D

But no avatars is a nice change. I always look at other people's avatars too.

We have to teach you how to read again, that watching the newscaster actually read the newspaper on the air is sort of silly. :(
 
As a result, I've read content from posters today whom I usually skip over or pass by. Some were worth the read. Others' comments still reinforced why it's nice to be able to identify who they are ahead of time.

Did people forget about the keynote on monday or something? The whole day, the most I saw on at one time was 1200.
 
This thread has been linked from digg.com's front page, which is where the majority of the extra traffic has come from. It's almost at the bottom so it'll be off soon and traffic will likely drop considerably at that point. I'll restore the avatars once that happens.

Ahhh, I see. That explains a lot.

And there's no rush to restore the avatars, I much prefer it like this :)

You know you can switch avatars off yourself? :) Go to https://forums.macrumors.com/account/preferences and scroll down to "Thread Display Options", you can then disable signatures, avatars and/or attached/embedded images.
