My MacBook Pro was in a bag with an unopened coke that sprung a leak. When I discovered it I used towels and a hair dryer to dry it and then let it air out. It seemed that I just lost my wireless connectivity but today it wouldn't turn on at all. 2 days from start to finish. Is it fixable? If so, would it be worth to fix a mid2010 MacBook Pro. Thanks

It's probably fixable, but it may not be cost effective.

If it is out of warranty (you didn't bother to mention the model number or purchase date), take it to an Apple Authorized Service Center, one who will provide a free repair quote. From there, it is up to you to decide whether or not it is worth spending the money to fix it.

Likely you will need to replace the logic board.
2010 MBPro? It will cost more to fix than finding a used (working) system.
It's considered a vintage/obsolete model. Apple won't fix it - too old.

Is a MacBook Air a good replacement option. Used to type, search the web use facebook and shop

If you are surfing the Internet, doing Facebook, and shopping, any computer built in the last five years would be more than capable of handling your needs.

Your usage case is extremely mundane and unremarkable.

Definitely not worth fixing that vintage MBP. Time for a new machine! For the basic usage you describe, I'd personally consider the new 12" MacBook. The MBA would be also perfectly adequate, but I find it hard to recommend it these days due to the terribly outdated screen.

I had a weird problem with my 2015 MacBook Air. I was getting like 3 hours of battery powered usage. It was truly bizarre just basically web surfing, Office, iTunes, etc. Kinda soured my view of the Air. If you can find it, I might go with a few years old MacBook Pro.

I had a similar situation happen to my 2011 MBA, rather, I didn't cap the water bottle tightly. I turned it ON and half the screen was just a pallet of vertical rainbow lines. I brought it to Apple, they fixed it and replaced the battery for about $238. It was worth it because I wasn't ready to purchase a new laptop. I also had to buy a new charger for $69 and traded in my old one.

I dropped my maxed out 2015 MBP in about a half an inch of water when it accidentally fell about 6 inches into the dog's water bowl...lol....just the corner of it got wet.

It's never come on since.

For me, this has solved all such future accidents (except I got an X1 Carbon):
I don't want to spend several thousand dollars and be susceptible to such minor things again.

A MacBook might also be a good option. Better screen, amazingly sleek.

You forgot pathetically underpowered and very expensive. He's coming from a 2010 model so I'm sure he won't mind the screen on the Air. That's what I would get if I was in his situation. Plus all the holiday sales on the Air makes this a great time to buy!

Just look around and get some quotes to repair it. If all else fails go for the Air or the 2015 retina MacBook Pro. Both are very capable and well priced. I would avoid the newer models as well as the MacBook.

U probably have never used a MB. The 2017 is faster than the Air. He's doing no sustained load, so throttling will not happen.

Recommending the Air only if u want to save money on a used on. But buying new is wasted money on this dated machine
