I'm debating buying either an iPhone or an iPod Touch. I'm familiar with the main hardware differences between the two (phone, Edge/3G, GPS, and camera). However, I'm curious if there are any differences between their software and installed apps. I know that there were big differences between the original iPhone and Touch, but I can't find a clear answer about the iPhone 3G and Touch 2g.

You mean the firmwares? Well the only difference would be the camera and phone parts. It has all the other stuff. And obviously the apps that use GPS still work, except for the gps funtion.

The firmware, and the apps that come as part of it, like mail, address book, SMS, etc.
