Both the Samsung Instinct and LG Dare are enabled to record video with their cameras. Aside from the several threads on this website about hacks or the App store, how easy would it be for Apple to issue an update to the iPhone 3G OS to enable video recording? Is is merely software? Is it simple, and could Apple easily issue an update to bring the iPhone up to speed with its competitors?

it would be very easy for apple to add it

the most common theory as to why it isnt enabled is phone videos are low quality, and apple dont do low quality... even though they have a sub par camera

And the fact that you can't put the 3G iPhone on a tripod...LOL:p

You could, it just doesn't have the standard tripod internal thread (which is bigger than the initial width of the iPhone - who'd want that?).
I'd imagine that Joby could create some sort of gorillapod siamese twin/ iphone cover that had a standard tripod thread in it. How many smartphones actually have it built in? Surely a case for having a case with it, rather than uglifying the iPhone ;)

Funny thing, at MWSF '08 the iPhone gurus conducting the conference workshops talked about the iPhone tripod, in which you put a rubberband around the iPhone and a broomstick and touch the button for perfect non-moving pics. And if you didn't have a rubberband, then you could lock your arms to your sides for stability and nicer unblurry pics. And I paid how much to go to MWSF '08? LOL but it seemed to work, until they develop something else...:p

iPhone 3G features:

-3G speeds
-GPS with Google photo satellite maps
-iTunes, including movies
-Safari web browser
-2.0MP camera
-built-in pop-out tripod
-App Store, and support for Microsoft Exchange
-organizer, phonebook, and all that other crap
-for an extra $199, we'll sell you a software update that allows video

I hate thread topics like these. I come in thinking there is some confirmation of it, but I leave disappointed.

Hopefully there will be video recording.

If not, someone will make a program for app store and apple will be like... we're stuipd for not doing that.
