Software for copying songs from iPod to computer: Windows

My friend (iPod nano, 4G), is trying to restore songs to her computer (running vista) from her computer. She's been trying to use software for this, but it hasn't been working. Does anyone have a recommendation for free software that will work? Thanks.

She's tried google; all of the top results in terms of freeware/shareware hasn't worked for her. Otherwise, I won't be asking this in a forum.
