My company provides Macs for staff and occasionally these get stolen. Since the Macs are enrolled in MDM we can see when these stolen Macs are switched on again and connected to the Internet, even if they are wiped. We could also, in theory, remotely install software on these Macs.

I've seen stories about criminals getting caught with a stolen Mac because the owner had surveillance software installed. Does anyone have any recommendations for such software, ideally something that can send location, keylogs and webcam pictures?

For pure locating needs, Apple bragged a bit about their new Find My app that'll come with the new operating systems this fall. Basically any up-to-date iDevice in the vicinity will help relaying an encrypted but weak broadcast from "lost" devices to Apple centrally, where the owner will be able to decrypt the signal from their own device and see where it is.

I also suspect the upcoming activation lock feature will make stolen Macs a lot more cumbersome to reinstall and reuse. Combine this with FileVault encryption, and I suspect only those utterly incompetent or extremely competent will bother to steal Macs in a relatively short while.
