Do any of you know of good (preferably free) software for organizing sources for a long research paper? I have books, articles, old government docs (in JPG) and more that I'd like to catalog somehow by keyword, author, title and more.

Any tips??

I don't use anything free, no. But off hand, you can check out Yep and Pages, both pdf-management software. I use iPhoto for managing scans with keywords and smart folders. And Lifehacker.com had a post on using iTunes of all softwares as a free pdf-management application. Just do a google-search for these things.

I had passed my research paper and graduated last year with using my favorite software in writing a research paper. Know what does software it is? That was a PDF and text document. It allows me to similarly organize documents my created or downloaded research paper for easier referencing.
