here's the scenario, at my uni we use cubase 4 with a roland xv5050. at home i've got a macbook with cubase 4 essentials. i want to be able to easily take songs to and from uni with ease.

the problem i'm having is my macbook's sound card doesn't even have any basic gm instrument sounds (or maybe i'm ding things wrong?), so to be able to hear everything i have to set up a halionone vst instrument for each track, which can be very time consuming and useless for when i take it back to uni.

i'm just after an easy way to hear my work when doing things at home. i know i could use some very good and better vst instruments but we get marks for using external midi sound modules so i have to use them. i just want, even if very basic, gm sounds on my macbook.

any help? i'm thinking of either a very cheap external sound module or some kind of software that'll do it? or maybe using the halionone in a different way so i don't have to set up one for each different instrument.

thanks for reading
