hi peeps at macrumors,
this is my first post on a forum, so be kind please!!
i am using a G5 iMac 2GHz Power PC with 1G of RAM and Tiger OSX 10.4.11
recently my Adobe CS3 software stopped working, and my computer started shutting down intermittently.
after attempting numerous disk & permission repairs & verifications which stated that they worked, but didn't (the software still didn't work and the computer still crashed), i decided to try a repair of the Adobe software.
when this didn't help the situation i tried uninstalling the Adobe software and doing a complete reinstall. this also didn't work.
my next idea was to try a complete overhaul of the system, an erase and install of the Operating System Mac OSX 10.4
this all seemed to work okay, but after reinstalling the OS my Software Updater does not work, it crashes System Prefs unexpectedly.
i visited the mac website and manually downloaded all recommended updates for tiger: MacOSX10.4.11Update(PPC); MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.11PPC; JavaForMacOSX10.4Release9; and SecUpd2009-005PPC. i only ran the Combo one and the SecUpd one as i assumed the other 10.4.11 update would be included in the combo update (identical release date to each other) and the java update wouldn't run, it told me to use software update app to update java to the correct version before this update would work.
i have searched the forums and tried removing the plist files relating to the Software Updater, with no result.
i also found this post:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1569?viewlocale=en_US
the ethernet is working fine, this was not the issue.
i then found this post:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/140468/
and the associated link:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_Update_10_4_2_Combo
but this update wouldn't run, i got the following message:
"You cannot install MacOSX Update Combined on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update"
now i am at a loss... can anyone suggest how i might resolve this Software Update Issue?
