Software Update doesn't notify

So I don't get notifications about iOS software updates anymore, a feature that started with iOS 5. Even if I go into settings and find the update, I still don't get the badge showing on Settings, and even the "1" that's supposed to show by "Software Update" isn't there. I tried Googling the problem, but I could only find the reverse—people that wanted to make the badge go away.

Does anyone know why it wouldn't be working correctly?
