I was just downloading the latest round of OS X updates when I noticed that they're being downloaded from img-cdn.mediaplex.com (Little Snitch includes a handy application specific network monitor). Mediaplex seems to be a legit ad company, not one of those dodgy ones, but why is Software Update getting OS X system updates from it?

Apple have pretty much always use various third party content distribution providers to ensure downloads are fast. They used to use Akami. Not sure if that's changed recently (or if this is the same company even).

Yeah, I've seen Apple use Akami plenty of times, but this interested me because, so far as I can tell, this is just an ad company. I've not seen any mentions of them providing cloud services.
