Anyone else have this problem? I run software update and finish installing the software. when my computer starts optimizing the volume of my harddrive my computer crashes. the screen goes grey and i get a screen with multiple languages on it telling me i need to restart my computer. can anyone tell me how i can fix this? is there a way i can optimize my harddrive manually?

thanks,

steve

It sounds like you're getting a kernel panic.

Do the updates otherwise work out ok? Can you offer some info on the type of machine you have?

yes, the updates do end up getting installed in the end abd this only seems to happen when i try and install something. i have a 15" 1.25 powerbook.

i found another instance when i get these 'kernel panics'. i tried repairing permissions on my harddrive and the same thing happened.

alright, i ran fsck and that seemed to stop the kernel panics that happen when i try to repair permissions. i haven't tried downloading an update to see what happens. will try that next.
