Every time I try to run software update I get the following warning.

A networking error has occured. Timed out. (-1001)
Make sure you can connect to the internet and try again.
Software update can't check for updates because of networking problems.

I'm connected to the internet, no problems there, iChat works. I'm on a network at my office and all the other computers can connect to software update. Does anyone have any ideas?

I too cannot connect here at work (just tried) even though I've been able to do so before.

It's possible it's a network config issue - possibly Software Update now uses a different port after the last security fix.

It's also at least as possible that SU is experiencing problems.

No, mine only started acting up today. It worked fine on Monday. It's clearly something on Apple's end. Maybe something is coming. :)

This is weird. My lappy (G4 Ti) ran software update fine, and installed the latest security update.

My G4 mini will not connect; I get the same -1001 error. BUT (and here's the weird part), running "softwareupdate -l" in Terminal works.

Dunno. One machine works, one only half works. Same time, same day.

Update:

Using "softwareupdate -i" won't install. It returns the -1001 timeout error as well, but the "softwareupdate -l" list command works fine.

Install command

Software Update found the following new or updated software:
- AirPort-4.2
AirPort (4.2), 12630K
- AirPort-1.0
AirPort Update 2005-001 (1.0), 1440K [restart]
* SecUpd2006-004Ti-1.0
Security Update 2006-004 (PowerPC) (1.0), 5660K [recommended] [restart]

They were probably migrating Software Update to one of the new experimental Xserves to make sure that they work just fine under a heavy load prior to the ship date.
