I have searched the database pretty extensively and can't seem to find any information on my issue, so sorry if I missed one but I honestly looked.
I'm trying to setup a Mirrored Update Server on a LAN with a G5 that has Tiger Server installed. The machines on the floor are eMac's and Mac Mini's. They are all 10.4.8 and are using roaming profiles that authenticate with a Dell server that is running Linux and ldap.
Our roaming profiles work great, but we turned off the port 63000 to external sites so that I could test. I want to host this Software Update server from the G5 that has Tiger Server on it. The problem is that I can't get the agent machines to connect to the server at all. I have the service turned on and all the updates are check marked to allow access. The service is started up fine and all is well. I also use this same machine to push out Netboot images and use it for Multicasting via Mac Helpmate.
WHen I try to update the agent machines I get a timed out error. I read that something had to be done with Workgroup manager in order for the server to allow the computers to have access, but it was very vague and not very informative. All my machines on the floor have a unique name to go with their MAC address.
Can anyone start to move me in the right direction with this? I want to use this so I have more control over my agent machines so an update won't break my environment.
Thank you very much in advance for any help anyone can give!
Scott
