What do you think about investing in solar companies at the moment?

These solar stocks seem to have fallen pretty deep and lost a lot of value recently which makes me think about investing now that it's so low.

Did they fall so much because of the oil getting cheaper in the past half year?

Anybody know about the outlook for this sector?

Take a look at ESLR

Fact: Europe has a strong movement for alternative engeries. What is happening in the USA is merely a needle in the haystack compared to what is happening in Europe.
Now is the time to buy and sit.

Yeah yeah i had that one on my watching list.

But what do you think will it rebound? Seems very affected by the recession.

Actually speaking of ESLR: If you look at their stock from past 2 years, the highest they're been at is Dec.'07 which was around 19 and averagely at around 8-10.

Really think that one is a good pick?

They were affected buy Lehman Brothers.
My recommendation is research their bookings, there NEW manufacturing capabilities, and projection for profits.

I've been investing in a solar company for a few years now. It took off a while back, but between the recent economy and oil falling it has taken a beating. However, I think long term the sector will remain strong.

ESLR has a market cap about about a half a billion.

Other solar stocks are:

FSLR - First Solar trading at about $135 with a 10B market cap

and

SPWRA - SunPower Corp

first solar and Evergreen use 2 completely different technologies.

First Solar is a very large company, where evergreen is just starting up their first high volume automated manufacturing facility.

At first glance I read the title as "Solar Socks" which seemed like a pretty stupid idea to me. :D

Actually it seems like a good idea. Think about it, oil may be low now, but its running out, and the world is power hungry, it has to come from somewhere, right now in Ireland solar panels and other renewable sources are in such hihg demand that we had to go on a six week waiting list for them. So from country to country, it can vary, but if you can afford to hold the stocks, you will make a long-term profit.

Read it again, carefully. ;)
