Ok just a quick story I 1st ordered a 16GB 3GS from AT&T then decided it be smarter to get the 32GB version instead the next day. well the order was already in the warehouse for processing and AT&T said my only option was wait for the 16gb version bring return it too the store, they ship it back and about 2 weeks latter I get my refund and I can't reorder from them till they get it back in stock. so I'd be out probably 3 weeks before I could get my phone. So I ordered the 32GB from apple. It came I activated it. I thought about holding on too it and Jailbreaking it of course I have to pay non contract fees etc. Well today I just decided there were too many variables and decided to take it back!

Fast forward I walked in today too the AT&T had to wait about 20 min and the rep helping me got excited as soon as she realized it was a 3GS the local store was out not sure when they were getting them back. she had a 3G now and loved it but was thinking about upgrading herself. Well rather then send it back and me having to pay the 10% restalking fee for a unopened unused phone she me at the bank tonight and gave me the money cash yes she can renew her contract or how ever AT&T does it for employees I did ask her if she was eligible for the $199 price she gave me the sales tax as well. I just thought it was amusing that I sold the phone to a AT&T rep!

So you bought a $199 iphone from ATT and then bought another non-contract 32gb iphone from Apple. Then you sold the 16gb to a ATT sales rep?

How much did she buy it for?

My guess is the op broke even, but missed out on the opportunity to sell his 3gs on eBay for a higher price than $199. The real winner in this transaction was probably the AT&T rep. Who knows if she was really eligible for the 199 subsidized price. Chances were she wasn't, but was able to leverage the op's discount.

But if the OP got one iPhone with a discount, then SOLD it for the same amount he paid for it, that leaves him with no phone. How did he buy his 32 GB iPhone on the same contract with the discounted price? It's not possible... He got screwed!

Yea I was thinking that after I posted my reply. Most likely the op got screwed.

The att rep just bought an iPhone 3gS for 199.99 without a contract, dude you got ripped.
Go back to att and ask them how much an 16 gb iPhone 3gS is without a contract 599.99 i think.

Let me break it down:
He bought a 16GB 3gS for 199.99 with contract, then decided he needed a 32 GB. He bought a 32GB for 699.99 (no contract price, because he already had got the 16 GB subsidized). Decided he wanted to return the 16 GB to att to get his money back, att rep said she wanted to buy it, he sold it to her for 199.99 without a contract at her bank.

Get it back ill give you 350 for it.

OP apparently doesn't know math. 10% restocking fee on $199 phone would have been -$19.90, then he could have gotten the 32GB phone for $299 + $19.90.

Instead the guy sells his phone to the rep at $199, avoids the restock fee ($20, big whoop) and buys the 32GB phone at a non contract price (probably $499 or more).

Doh!

no contract is $700.

why do people feel the need to post their personal stories that have no bearing on the community. This story is bogus by the way.

no contract is $700.

I'm aware of that but the rep has discretion to re-up his contract for two years and sell him another phone at $499.

You could walk out of the Apple store, smash your phone on the concrete, come back in and they'd give you a brand new one for $499.

Lol you know you just got out smarted by an AT&T rep right? I'd prolly shoot myself if that happened.
