The phone is currently on 4.2.1 and i want it to be able to have a jailbreak when they receive it. Is the latest OS able to be rooted on iPhone 4?

Thanks.

iOS is rooted by default. The latest jailbreakable version is 4.3.5. But the latest untethered version is 4.3.3.

So i should simply send it with 4.2.1 just to be safe since I still have the install for that on my computer?

Cant wait for my iphone 4s :D

If you want. Just make sure you restore it first. When iTunes says "The iPhone is restarting. Leave it plugged in." unplug the iPhone and turn it off once its done restarting. At this point, its ready to be send to the buyer. Remember, do not send your SIM card.

Keep getting "This device is not eligible for the requested build" even in DFU mode... I cant restore the phone.. any thoughts?

I tried in DFU mode and no success.

Nevermind fixed it.

Ok not fixed.. still cant get this thing to work.. keeps either giving me device not eligible or 1013 error... ugh

You need shsh blobs saved.
You can't just install whatever version you want.

So wait all this talk the Dev-team kept talking about shsh blobs and saving them, actully meant something? Well who would have thunk that.

99.999999% sure I saved the blobs quite a long time ago.

prospective buyer

So a prospective iPhone 4 buyer whom needs unlocked-JB needs to look for:

iOS4.2.1 or older

SHSH files (if one ever needs to restore to the same iOS)

specific Baseband

4.3.3 is the last iOS that is untethered. 4.2.1 is better for the 1.59 bb.
Cydia should have most of the blobs. However, you could ask for a screenshot of the cydia blobs saved? Some people don't use tiny umbrella to save blobs. However, if they did, you could ask for a copy of those too.
The only bb that matters is 1.59. Problem is, it's very easy to foul up.
You should also ask which carrier it's originally locked to. If it's AT&T, it's easy to buy an inactive sim off eBay (for activation purposes). Otherwise, you'll have to locate a sim if the seller doesn't send one in the first place.
