So i originally had a asus laptop that my my iPhone backup on it, but since upgraded to a 17" MBP and now i want to upgrade to 4.1 from 4.0.1 but how?
i need the data on the phone:(

Download itunes and back up iphone to new computer...connect iPhone to comp..open itunes, right click on iphone under the library lists (left hand side of itunes), now once you have right clicked you can pick transfer purchased apps or backup. You also might want to uncheck automatically sync device under perferences. This should keep everything from your iphone if you do it right. Sorry if my explanation is hard to read. I'm not the best at explaining things.

I think everything will be backed up except for the music and any videos you bought from itunes. Those you'll most likely have to redownload. Oh and if you plan on restoring instead of upgrading, remember to save the pictures before restoring. I've learned the hard way 2 times now.
