I sold my iPhone 4 and didn't remove the SIM and had no problems. I read somewhere that I should remove the SIM before sending out the 4S to a new user.

Verizon told my buyer that the 4S does NOT use a SIM. Just curious if any of my personal data is on the SIM. I did a phone wipe, so it is completely restored to new condition.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Nope. The SIM is just used for overseas roaming and should deactivate or link to the buyers account when they activate it. You could take it out it wouldn't make a difference.
