Wow...haven't been on Macrumors forums in a while :) glad to be back

With a birthday coming up, I am considering getting an IntelX-25m (120 GB) to replace my CD/DVD Drive, considering it's meager usage, and run my apps and system from the SSD.

First, I just want to be sure that it is possible to actually do that before I shell out the cash.

Second, if anyone knows of any better SSD's I can use, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Finally, anyone have experiences with doing this that they'd like to share?

and Happy Father's Day to all the dads!:D

Welcome back :)

Well before we talk SSDs, what capacity and budget are you looking at?

Instead of the X25, I'd recommend the Intel 320 instead. It's the newer variant of the SSD, same controller but more features.

If you want better, well then it's all up to price. The OWC 6G Electra costs $229 for 120GB and the 6G Mercury Extreme costs $279 for 120GB... I'd just recommend staying away from OCZ products at the moment as they are experiencing some firmware issues.

What firmware issues are they having? From what everyone on this board says, OCZ is fine (and as far as mine goes, I've not had a single problem yet).
