I'm surprised there aren't more reviews of the Solo3's here...
I've owned a silly number of pairs of headphones in the last few years....
Sennheiser HD600, Momentum over-ears and on-ears
Beats Studio Pro Wireless
Master & Dynamic MH30 and MW60 (still own these)
B&O H8 and H7
B&W P3 and P5
to name the ones I can remember, and not including countless pairs of buds and IEMs (Shure, UE, Etymotic etc). I have a problem...
I chose the Solo3s as a convenient set of headphones and prefer over-ears to the AirPods. Here's the thing. The Solo3's are very, very good headphones. They are light, comfy, surprisingly well balanced (yes, warm, but not flabby or overpowering), easy to drive, well made (plastic, but so are most headphones, and the pleather is good quality; the hinges are positive; and the buttons click positively), and with the W1 chip, ridiculously easy to use. If you're writing them off because they're Beats, don't.
My ears are a bit old and worn out for me to describe myself as a true audiophile these days, though I would say I make an effort to listen to music rather than just 'hear' it, and I am an occasionally-gigging musician; but I'm really impressed, and these stand up to other headphones in the price range very well, with the added bonus of the W1 functionality, and minus the nice materials (lambskin, aluminium etc). My favourite headphones are still the MW60s - they're extraordinary - but I'll definitely swap them in and out with the Solos as my walk-around, go-to-work cans.
