So I live in NY.
There's already a 4 page thread here about the slow 3G and basic crappy performance specifically in this region.
I picked my phone up launch day and the first 2 1/2 weeks were glorious... no issues at all. Then about a week and a half ago all my problems started.
Everything that has been posted on this forum about iphone issues... I had every single one.
Full 3G signal but safari slow as molasses, if it even opened a page at all.
Losing 3G and dropping to Edge and never switching back.
Unable to access email, update stocks, weather, app store etc.
Losing all network connectivity (3G and Edge) and simply have my phone be in search mode and NEVER find any signal, for an hour at a time, essentially turning my phone into a classy paperweight.
Finally got fed up and spoke to a Mac Genius. Basically he said that the iphone was fine and that the problem was on AT&T's end. It sounded like typical passing the buck, but there was nothing else I could do so I went ahead and called Customer Service.
After a bit, the tech support said I should go to my nearest store and have them replace my Sim card. 2 minutes after having my card swapped out (no charge) all the connectivity issues vanished. Just like that. Been 2 days now, and while it may seem like it's too early to say if it will last, I know that one minute I had an iphone that couldn't access anything, and now everything works. Fast. I will admit that my GPS is still wonky, but that's definitely an Apple issue.
So anyone out there who has similar experiences on their phone, slow internet etc, first try having AT&T swap out your Sim card.
The dude there told me that they make these cards in the millions, and that there could have simply been a bad batch, which could potentially be affecting thousands of users.
