My Macbook Air 2011 is getting very hot on the bottom? Is something wrong with it and how do I fix this? iStat Pro says that it is 180 degrees Fahrenheit which is the average for me... Help!!

EDIT: I am only using Google Chrome and it just raised to 182!

180 is very hot, are you sure that the fan is still working? At this temperature you should take it to a repair place very soon before you fry it.

if you have apple care or are still inside your 1 year, take it to the store....that is not normal at all. They will probably just give you a new one.

Just to clarify, are you talking 180 Fahrenheit? That would be 82 C and would not be too bad if it only happens under full load.

6519 rpm. The fan has been loud. It just dropped to 173 Fahrenheit

I purchased it at Best Buy and I did not get a warranty or anything.

That is normal then haha. As along as you are below 100 Celsius you should be fine. They run hot, but can actually handle being under 100 without any issues. If you start to go over that, have it looked at

Thank You!

Thanks a lot! I had a plugin for Kies (Samsung app) and it was taking up a LOT of my CPU! My computer is now at 122 degrees fahrenheit!

That sounds about right. I'm using Chrome at the moment, with my 2011 MBA in clamshell mode (which can run hotter than when fully open). My temps are pretty steady around 48c/118f and the fans are at 4200. I do use smcFanControl and find it helps quite a bit with keeping things cool.
