Hi,

I do not usually post on forums as I'm mostly looking for answers rather than solving them. However, I have just sorted out two things that have been bugging me for some time and have not been able to find a previous solution.

I have been getting numerous visual voicemails from 'Unknown' dated 1st Jan 1970. I can move them into deleted items, and then when I go to clear all, it tends to create some more in my VV inbox as well as leaving all the 'Uknown's in the Deleted items folder.... Very frustrating, and was even getting to the point that new messages were being created in the list when I was deleting others...

I didn't want to format the iPhone and start from scratch, so after some experimenting, finally got rid of the messages for good. Only time will tell as to whether I get new ones going forward.

I must mention that it is possible not all the steps below were actually required, I just used good practice from previous IT experience.

Delete iPhone 'Unknown Voicemails'
I am in the UK, and use O2, you will need to replace the network stuff with local numbers.

1. Call 901 (normal voicemail) and delete all current and saved messages (just keep pressing 3).
2. Turn off voicemail. On O2, dial 1760 and wait for confirmation.
3. Go into visual voicemail inbox and delete all the messages.
4. Press the home button and then perform a hard shutdown (hold power for 4 seconds until shutdown slider appears.) Switch on after 10 seconds by holding power button for 2 seconds.
5. Go into VV inbox. If some messages have reappeared, delete them again until inbox is empty. Repeat steps 4&5 until there are no messages in the VV inbox after a restart.
6. Go into Deleted Items. You need to highlight one message at a time and then click Clear All Messages. This will take you back to the VV inbox. Go back into Deleted Items and repeat over until all messages are gone. It will only delete one message at a time.
7. Repeat step 4.
8. All messages from both your VV inbox and Deleted Items should now be gone. If not repeat above steps as appropriate.
9. Turn voicemail back on by dialling 1750 and waiting for confirmation.

One note, it seems that as long as one or multiple corrupted messages are present, they are capable of generating more when actions are perfomed upon them. That's why when you try to do anything with the messages other than the above, you seem to generate more than you get rid of.

Camera Roll - Mass Deletion
Lastly, I wanted to let you know about my other bugbear that might be useful to someone.. I have been noticing the time it takes for the camera to by ready has increased up to about 10 seconds. I have long suspected this is do with the 1,300 odd photos I had in the camera roll.

I have always been scared of deleting from my iPhone as I like to have all the photo's with me. I was unsure as to whether the 'Photo Library' was a filter of my camera roll. I recently discovered it was actually a sync of iPhoto, so felt safe that I was indeed keeping two seperate copies of the same photos.

I have not been able to work out using iPhoto how to delete all the photo's on camera roll and there were too many to do individually. I found that using the Image Capture application found in your Applications folder did the trick.
1. When you open it with your iPhone connected, it will detect it and ask if you want to download the photos.
2. Click Options and select Delete photo's after downloading. OK this screen and download your photos.
3. Camera roll gone! Photo Library still showing all photos and camera now starts in the same time as when new.

Hope this works for others and helps. :)
