This is for you.

I recently bought this usb mic because microphone that plug into the mic port didn't work. So I tried doing voiceovers on imovie and it only recorded on one side and played on that one side. After reseach, you have to go to your utilies and go in Audio Midi Setup and click on your mic on the left and you'll see on the right something that has a drop down box that says '2ch - 16 bit' well change that to the 1ch and it will be fixed.

Most people, I think would record to one channel and then in the mixer pan the audio to some place between the two stereo speakers.

Well this makes it so it records and plays in both speakers without having to edit the audio file. So if you record in imovie or final cut, you don't have to individually edit each thing you record into it.
