Hello i am considering of buying the following MBP:

MacBook Pro 15-inch

2.66GHz Intel Core i7
4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
MacBook Pro 15-inch Glossy Widescreen Display
Backlit Keyboard (English) & User's Guide

it costs ~ 2200$.
My question is if i can invest this money better on a laptop or if by some hardware changes in this MBP i will get significantly better results (i wouldn't mind spending some more if its worth it).

Depends what you do with it. 8GB of RAM and SSD might be worth it, from aftermarket of course. Also, I would get the hi res screen.

+1 on the hi-res screen. That's the specs I bought with my new MBP. I am waiting to see if I need to go with 8 of RAM. Right now 4 is serving me well enough. If it looks as if I need more RAM then I'll go out and get it-plenty of threads here about which ones are good. You do not have to go through Apple for this.
