I've added a few new alert sounds to the Library > Sounds Folder in 10.6.8. All of them are *.aif and have 5, 6, and 7 seconds of length. Only the 7 second length file will play in Google Notifier (I'm holding on to it as long as I can!) and my Mail app upon a notification. I've triple checked that the preferences are set to play them, but only one of the three files works regardless.
All three of them have been exported from iTunes, and I've even tried editing (the ones that don't play) and exporting them through Audacity, but to no avail. I've also tried *.aiff vs *.aif. All three of them are 1,411,200 Bitrate and with sizes: working 7 second (1.3 MB), not working 6 second (1.1MB), and not working 5 second (930 KB).
Is there specific requirements that the files must have in order to play through OS X aside from being an AIFF file? Is there a sure-fire way to convert them to a correct format that will play them, or is it a bug of the OS?
