My fairly new MacBook Pro just came back from Apple with a new disk, so I restored from my time machine backup and everything appeared ok
However, 3 applications wont start now for my username, but are fine under a different username
Firefox just 'bounces' once and exits
Adobe Bridge immediately gives an 'unknown operating system error'
Nikon ViewNX gives the crash report dialog
I have moved aside all profile and preferences that seem relevant, but no luck
I have run dtruss on firefox-bin and it appears to be related to the /.vol/ directory which Firefox seems to use as some kind of cache.
mkdir("/.vol/234881026/846956/Firefox\0", 0x1FF, 0xBFFFCE00) = -1 Err#13
getattrlist("/.vol/234881026/846956\0", 0xBFFFE0E0, 0xBFFFDF30) = 0 0
These are the last two entries before it exits
Tried to compare the output to when it starts fine under a different user, but so much is different its hard to spot anything other than the above
Anyone know anything about this? or any other tools or things to try to see if i can diagnose the problem further?
The new drive was because the old drive was failing, so my last backups might have had some kind of errors/corruption i guess. I tried restoring from two different backups, but it was the same. I could try going one further back maybe, but it takes a few hours each go!
Edit - oh and Safari has just crashed twice (completely vanished)
