Okay, since my CS Dept. is pro-Linux, kind of hard for me to do SOME native work on my Mac. So I'm wondering if you guys can suggest me some software for my situations below.

  • Be able to create a network drive (secure connection) to my schools CS servers. The OS X network connect isn't working so well, timesout, or doens't connect.
  • Currently using Emacs (text editor for Mac Universal). I want to be able to remotely edit files from my Mac to the CS dept via Emacs. Ideally, I prefer not to switch text editors, because I will be tutoring people on this mac, and do not want to change editors on them. The way I think I can do this is if I ssh into my school's CS server, and then type in emacs <filename> &. However, I think I need to create an alias so the terminal will be able to launch my OS X Emac, whenever i type in the command.
  • Be able to run Linux software like my class' LC3 Simulator. For now, I have just been running Linux on Parallels to do this, but I was wondering if there are other solutions.

Any help welcome.

EDIT: Okay, I pretty much need an OS X equivalent that does what http://www.sftpdrive.com does.
