Some final cut express ?s

I am thinking fo buying final cut express I am new to video editing I have done allot of audio editing and mixing but video is unknown territory for me. If any one here has used final cut express can you tell me if it converts avi to mpeg2 or vcd to dvd or mpeg4 or mpeg2 to avi any help on this would be great.

FCE is not a conversion tool. You *may* be able to import the AVI into your project but for real conversion check out ffmpegX, MPEG2 Works, VisualHub or Handbrake.
